Name: Tami Ross, RD, CDE   Place of employment:  Internal Medicine Associates    Why did you choose the field of diabetes and what keeps you involved?  By chance – diabetes education was a component of my first job. I initially had no interest in diabetes…It was so complicated! Now it’s my passion and I am excited by the challenge! It’s rewarding to see the impact that diabetes care and education can make.     Are you working on any interesting projects or committees related to diabetes? AADE Board of Directors, AADE Core Concepts Course Faculty, Was in writing workgroup that authored the new exchanges – “Choose Your Foods”, writing workgroup to revise “First Step in Diabetes Meal Planning”, Chair of DCE’s nominating committee   What do you see as trends in diabetes care or educations? Increasing access to diabetes care and education. Expanding the reach of diabetes education into the community.   What are your future career goals? Expand my practice with more involvement in local programs providing health care to the underserved. Continue writing and working in partnership with industry. Enroll in culinary school at some point.   Discuss any personal hobbies or interests: Digging in my perennial gardens. Reading a good book. Trying out new recipes    Congratulations to Tami for receiving the 2008 Diabetes Educator of the Year from Diabetes Care & Education Specialty Practice Group of the American Dietetic Association!!!
